Advanced manufacturing processes for sustainable polymer-based materials
About This Course
Performance gaps that the course will address.
• A wide range of polymer-based products are utilized in day-to-day activities and related manufacturing processes are well established. However, government restrictions due to plastic waste pollution are calling for new sustainable polymeric materials and adaption and development of processing techniques.
• With the guidance of course mentors, learners will be able to identify suitable advanced sustainable materials and related processing technologies to meet the relevant industrial product requirements.
• Company representatives will learn to assess environmental impact and calculate carbon footprints of existing products and determine the benefit of sustainable material / process replacement.
What You'll Learn
• Fundamentals of material classification for sustainability;
• Test methods and standards for assessing biodegradability;
• Techniques for assessing environmental impact and carbon foot print for a selected process/material;
• Recyclability of plastics, biopolymer handling and respective impact on product performance and process control for
o polymer pre-processing via compounding and extrusion;
o film casting;
o injection moulding; and
o additive manufacturing;
• Emerging processes for light weight polymer foams via foam injection molding process;
• Opportunities in utilizing natural resources & recycled waste via
