An Introduction to Electrical Power Systems Engineering
About This Course
The power industry sector in the generation and distribution of electricity to the consumers offers many interesting and exciting opportunities. In line with the continuing education and lifelong learning philosophy, NTU has in place several semester long courses and specialist certificates in the power area. One of them is the specialist Certificate on Electrical Power Systems which will be awarded with the successful completion of three semester long courses. The Specialist Certificate is a supported course under the SkillsFuture Study Award for the Power Sector administered by the Energy Market Authority.
The proposed course is within the Energy and Power Sector of the Industry Transformation Maps (ITM) skills framework which was launched at the end of 2018. Over three days, the course will cover basic understandings of electrical circuit principles, basic electromagnetic principles and electrical machines, and basic knowledge of power generations, transmission and distribution systems. This proposed 3-days short course will give individuals who wish to join or progress within the Energy and Power sector an opportunity to assess their career interest or for anyone who may want to have some basic understanding of some of the workings in the power industry. They are also in line with some of the training programme in the ITM Energy and Power Sector for new entrants.
What You'll Learn
(i) Basic knowledge required for the analysis of AC and DC linear circuits.
(ii) Basic electromagnetic principles and basic operating principles and performance analysis of three most commonly used electrical machines, namely transformers, DC machines and AC machines.
(iii) Basic knowledge of power generation, transmission and distributions systems and a good understanding of power system faults and power system protection.
