(PDECCE-T) Development in Early Childhood
About This Course
This module covers theories of child development and developmental sequences of children from three through the preschool years for early childhood educators. Emphasis is on characteristics of physical/motor, social, emotional, and cognitive/language development and appropriate experiences for children as well as the influence of the family and community. Discussion on moral development, gender typing, transitions and school readiness will also be made.
Students will learn to apply contemporary theories and literature to support the growth, well-being, learning and development of each child. They will also acquire the ability to guide and adapt teaching and learning practice by applying understanding of developmental stages of children age 3 to 6 and acknowledging that all children have different strengths and learning abilities.

Entry Requirements
Applicants should have:
* 5 GCE ‘O’ level credits including a grade C6 in GCE ‘O’ level English Language OR Any English Language Acceptable Alternatives
OR
* 10 years of formal education in English as a medium of instruction and passed state exam with credits in 5 different subjects OR required to pass English Language
OR
* Degree with English as medium of instruction from state recognised university OR required to pass English Language Acceptable Alternatives
