About This Course

Young children benefit in many ways from physical activities. Physical activities promote optimal growth and development of the nervous system, refinement of perceptual abilities, proficiency of neuromuscular skills, self-concept and self-esteem. The physical development and health of young children should be a concern for all teachers and carers of young children.

The focus of this module is on the development of young children’s gross and fine motor abilities and skills. Students will be exposed to a variety of fun and fitness activities that are developmentally appropriate to be integrated into the early childhood curriculum. In order to provide worthwhile and valuable programmes that support the healthy development of young children, students will also increase their knowledge of medical and physical conditions affecting young children, and to be confident in their abilities to assist young children’s health and development in a safe environment.
