(HCIC) Facilitate the Continuity of Care and Education between the Home and Centre
About This Course
Respectful relationships with families form the foundation of positive relationships between educarers, families and children. Young infants and toddlers strive and grow on these relationships that encourage development of trust and security.
In this module, students will explore the various ways of working effectively with families which include acquiring techniques for effective two-way communication, conferencing and meetings. Students will learn the approaches and strategies to engage in effective communication with parents which include both oral and written communication.
What You'll Learn
1. The ability to understand:
a. Diversity in family systems, dynamics and backgrounds
b. The importance of continuity of care through home-centre partnerships, and influence of families on the care and development of children
c. Strategies to facilitate home-centre partnerships
d. Modes of communication that facilitate effective partnerships with families
2. The ability to:
a. Articulate to families the importance of continuity of care for children from birth to 18 months
b. Interact with families regularly to establish relationships that encourage mutual exchange of resources and information about children
c. Adopt a consistent procedure, in partnership with families, for continuity of care
d. Utilise modes of communication that are preferred by families and suited for varied families’ needs
Entry Requirements
Applicants should have:
a. Minimum Secondary 2* or minimum 8 years of formal education * and
b. At least an average SOA 4 in the WPL series
*Official documents are required to show completion of 8 years of education. Medium of instruction is to
be in English.
