(PDECCE-T) Understanding Children with Special Needs
About This Course
This module covers exceptional children as learners within the context of the community, school, and family. Emphasis is on the social, physical, and cultural issues relating to the analysis and teaching of exceptional children. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate knowledge of identification processes, mainstreaming techniques, professional practices and attitudes, as well as build up a network of referral services for children with special needs.
What You'll Learn
1. The ability to understand:
a. Individual differences
b. Children with special needs and learning difficulties
c. Behavioural and developmental characteristics presented by children with specific disabilities or special abilities
d. Strengths-based views on the differences between typical and atypical development and learning (birth to age 6)
2. The ability to:
a. Maintain confidentiality with regards to information on atypical development of children
Entry Requirements
Applicants should have:
* 5 GCE ‘O’ level credits including a grade C6 in GCE ‘O’ level English Language OR Any English Language Acceptable Alternatives
OR
* 10 years of formal education in English as a medium of instruction and passed state exam with credits in 5 different subjects OR required to pass English Language
OR
* Degree with English as medium of instruction from state recognised university OR required to pass English Language Acceptable Alternatives
