(ACEY/CCP) Identify How Children (birth to age 3) Learn and Develop
About This Course
This module focuses on the principles of infant and toddler development, including the study of prenatal and neonatal stages. Students will identify the major theories of human development and explore brain development from birth to 36 months. Focus will be made on the developmental sequences in physical, social-emotional, cognitive, language and sensory development and learning. Young children’s attachment, bonding, temperaments and individual differences will also form part of the study in this module. A study of temperament and appropriate behavioural guidance will form part of the study.

f. Factors that contribute to children’s growth, well-being, learning and development
2. The ability to:
a. Apply understanding of developmental stages of children from birth to age 3 to guide care-giving practice
b. Apply understanding of contemporary theories and literature to support the growth, well-being, learning and development of each child
Entry Requirements
Applicants should have:
a. Minimum Secondary 4 education* or completed 10 years of formal education* and
b. At least an average SOA in the WPL series, including an SOA 5 for WPL-Writing
*Official documents are required to show completion of 10 years of education. Medium of instruction is to be in English.
