About This Course
Sound practice in the provision of education and care is grounded in clear understanding of local cultural and historical contexts as well as knowledge of global developments. Basic understanding of what educating young children is all about is important as these factors determine the quality of experiences that will be provided for them by teachers of young
children. This module will trace the historical roots and influences on early childhood education, gives an overview of growth, policies, licensing requirements, quality, role and status of early childhood care and education in Singapore.
Vision, mission and values are of core importance as they form the core ideas of practices in the centres. This module explores the centres’ vision, mission, and values, and its alignment with the curriculum and programmes. It also encourages participants on contributing to foster
a culture that promote the mission, vision and values.
What You'll Learn
1. The ability to understand:
a. An overview of the development of and perspectives on early childhood care and education
b. Overview of Singapore’s early childhood education
c. Philosophy and Goals of Early Childhood Programmes
d. Policies, licensing requirements, teacher certification and training requirements in Singapore
e. The centre’s vision, mission and values
f. The rationale behind the centre’s vision, mission and values and its long term direction
g. How own actions can affect the centre’s objectives
2. The ability to:
a. Articulate the rationale behind the vision, mission and values of the centre
b. Align daily practice to the centre’s vision, mission and values
Entry Requirements
Applicants should have:
a. 3 GCE ‘O’ level credits including a grade C6 in GCE ‘O’ level English Language OR Any English Language Acceptable Alternatives
OR
b. 10 years of formal education and passed state exam with credits in 3 different subjects including a credit at least C6 in EL1 or any English Language Acceptable Alternatives
