(ACECCE-E) Apply Understanding of How Children (Birth to Age 8) Learn and Develop (Beginning Pre-school Teacher)
About This Course
This module covers theories of child development and developmental sequences of children from infancy through the preschool years for early childhood educators. Emphasis is on characteristics of physical/motor, social, emotional, and cognitive/language development and appropriate experiences for children as well as the influence of the family and community.
Students will learn to apply contemporary theories and literature to support the growth, wellbeing, learning and development of each child. They will also acquire the ability to guide and adapt teaching and learning practice by applying understanding of developmental stages of children birth to 8 and acknowledging that all children have different strengths and learning
abilities. This module also explores the importance of play development in young children and its relationship to learning.

c. Expected milestones (developmental stages) across different areas of children’s growth and development (0-8 years)
d. Factors that contribute to children’s growth, well-being, learning and development
e. Strengths-based views on the differences between typical and atypical development and learning (birth to age 8)
f. The relevant curriculum frameworks utilised in Singapore
2. The ability to:
a. Apply understanding of developmental stages of children birth to age 8 to guide practice
b. Apply understanding of contemporary theories and literature to support the growth, well-being, learning and development of each child
Entry Requirements
Applicants should have:
a. 3 GCE ‘O’ level credits including a grade C6 in GCE ‘O’ level English Language OR Any English Language Acceptable Alternatives
OR
b. 10 years of formal education and passed state exam with credits in 3 different subjects including a credit at least C6 in EL1 or any English Language Acceptable Alternatives
