About This Course
As mental health awareness rises and seeking help becomes more normalized, the role of para-counsellors is gaining significant importance. This supportive role extends beyond traditional settings like schools and social service agencies, with growing demand across diverse community groups and even corporations. While not all individuals in para-counselling positions are formally certified, they act as crucial allies to professional counsellors. This course equips learners with the foundational skills of para-counselling, focusing on effective communication and appropriate techniques to better support their clients.
What You'll Learn
LO1: Define the roles of a para-counsellor and its boundaries regarding client confidentiality and informed consent
LO2: Apply established principles and procedures to solicit informed consent and maintain the confidentiality of clients
LO3: Use effective communication skills and counselling techniques to establish rapport with clients and identify the root causes of issues
LO4: Implement appropriate counselling skills and techniques to effectively engage the clients
Entry Requirements
Learners should preferably:
- Have at least 1 GCE ‘N’ Level Pass
- Be able to speak, listen and read English at a proficiency level not lower than the Employability Skills Workforce Skills Qualification Workplace Literacy Level (WPL Level 4);
*Learners who do not qualify in terms of education but have relevant working and/or volunteering experience will be admitted on a case-by-case basis, subject to approval by the Management Representative (MR).
