About This Course
In this module, students will learn about the principles, practices and standards of sanitation in relation to the protection of public health. They will be able to understand the science underlying the various cleaning techniques and its application on different surfaces and materials. Students will gain knowledge and skills on cleaning and disinfection for environmental infection control. It will address causes and effects of diseases associated with community health.
What You'll Learn
By the end of the module, students should be able to:
· Differentiate different types of soils and explain the factors that contribute to microbial growth in soils
· Differentiate between the different cleaning chemicals and how to apply them safely in different surfaces/ materials.
· Identify and explain how different cleaning chemicals are suitable for cleaning of different surfaces and materials.
· Describe the factors affecting effectiveness of disinfectants and develop steps to be taken for environmental cleaning and disinfection.
· Demonstrate the correct selection, wearing, use, removal and disposal of personal protective equipment for environmental service workers in cleaning and disinfection.
· Describe the good practices of a cleaning programme and explain how soap and detergents differs in cleaning efficacy.
· State the various guidelines and standards for cleaning performance for different industries, and apply the sanitation standards for public housing estates and commercial premises.
· Explain how guidelines and standards for cleaning performance are applied to other industries including retail food and beverage (F&B) premises, and describe the importance of the Enhanced Clean Mark Accreditation (EAS) for cleaning companies
