About This Course
This course aims to introduce the Abecedarian Approach (AA) as an evidence-based, proven programme that integrates basic principles of human learning and development into a fun, affordable, and effective approach to early childhood education. Learners will be able to adopt a suite of strong teaching and learning strategies that can be used within many existing curricula. The central focus is on developing oral language competencies emerging from birth to age three that form a foundation for later literacy and reading. The AA programme includes playful interactions, enriched care, and stable and responsive relationships among children and adults.
What You'll Learn
The course emphasises the importance of rich language interactions that are individualised, frequent and intentional throughout the day, that take place through all the common events of living and caregiving. This course includes a practicum component where learners are required to observe as well as be involved in programmes that have adopted AA into their curriculum and/or intervention work with children and families.
Entry Requirements
